If the system’s operating budget request of $353 million is fully funded, Renton Technical College will receive approximately $5.5 million in additional funding.
If the system’s request is fully funded, Renton Technical College will receive approximately $5,915,800 for operation, maintenance, infrastructure, repairs and minor improvements of its existing facilities, $50,682,000 for construction of the Health Sciences Center, and $50,066,000 for design and construction of the Trades and Industries building.

Whether they want to advance their careers, get transfer credits, earn their high school diplomas, or take college preparatory classes, students find their place at Renton Technical College. RTC provides small classes, student support, hands-on training, and flexible course options in an inclusive environment. Renton Technical College meets students where they are and helps move them forward to greater opportunities. Equity is at the core of our mission, and about 70% of students identify as students of color.
Meet Elmi Abdalla
Elmi Abdalla, a student in Renton Technical College’s Commercial Building Engineering Program, believes his dreams are within reach because of his education at Renton Technical College. Earning his AAS degree will help him and his community. “It gives me skills and confidence while also inspiring me in a way that keeps my mind, spirit, and hands active. Having concrete technical skills, along with a degree, has become an essential need that can truly change the career trajectory and economic opportunities in one’s life,” he said.
Legislative Priority: Expand Opportunity for Students and Employers
Fully funding our budget requests will have real returns for students like Elmi Abdalla, and for the communities and employers in our area. Students will learn from competitively-paid experts who choose to work at Renton Technical College rather than pursue higher paying positions with private employers or K-12 schools. Our students will train for careers in robust workforce programs, with modern equipment and learning spaces that mirror their future work environments. We will be able to expand technology to bring a college education to more people in more ways, which is especially important for working adults. And, all our students will benefit from an inclusive environment where they are valued, supported and equipped to reach their goals. Renton Technical College will also receive funding to operate and maintain existing facilities and to design and build both a Health Sciences Center and Trades and Industries building.
