Cascadia College is the youngest of the state’s 34 community and technical colleges, established to serve the northeast side of Lake Washington as a comprehensive community college that also offers Basic Education for Adults, ESL, professional-technical certificates and degrees, two Bachelor of Applied Science degrees, corporate and continuing education, and an English language program for international students. Every year, about 75% of students enrolled at Cascadia are intent upon pursuing four-year degrees.
Meet Allen Flaa
Allen Flaa started his educational journey at Cascadia College earning an Associate of Arts degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD). After interning with King County, Allen returned to Cascadia’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Sustainable Practices (BASSP) program. Allen now works full time at Cascadia as a Program Coordinator with Cascadia’s Facilities and Capital Projects. His goal is to make sustainable concepts and practices more accessible through education.
Legislative Priority: Expand Opportunity for Students and Employers
Fully funding our budget requests will have real returns for students like Allen Flaa and for the communities and employers in our area. Students will learn from competitively-paid experts who choose to work at Cascadia College rather than pursue higher paying positions with private employers or K-12 schools. Our students will train for careers in robust workforce programs, with modern equipment and learning spaces that mirror their future work environments. We will be able to expand technology to bring a college education to more people in more ways, which is especially important for working adults. And, all our students will benefit from an inclusive environment where they are valued, supported and equipped to reach their goals.
Cascadia College will also receive funding to operate and maintain existing facilities and to design and build its CC5 Gateway building.
