OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will hold its regular business meeting Thursday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On the agenda is approval of funding for community and technical colleges for the 2023-24 fiscal year, including operating and capital budget allocations passed by the Legislature during its 2023 session.
The board is also set to finalize federal awards and allocations for Workforce and Student Support as well as Basic Education for Adults, and state awards and allocations for Corrections Education. The Workforce Education state and federal funding targets programs supporting entry-level training, skills upgrade or retraining for the state's workforce. Basic Education for Adults funding supports adult and family literacy programs under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. Corrections Education funding comes through an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections and supports high school completion, certificates and degrees.
Board members are expected to take action on an update to the State Board's 2020-30 Strategic Plan. The plan includes new goals and updated strategies reflecting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the college system.
State Board members will hold a study session Wednesday, June 28 from 1:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., during which they will hold a discussion with members of the local community on Washington's future workforce.
The meetings are open to the public and will be held at Columbia Basin College, 2600 N. 20th Ave. in Pasco. The meeting agenda and background materials are posted on the State Board's website.
